Medical Mediation

Health and social care issues are stressful enough, but when there is a disagreement between medical professionals and their patients and patient’s families trust can be lost and relationships can be damaged. Mediation to resolve these types of conflicts take place outside the usual healthcare setting in a calm, safe supported space where everyone, the patient, families and medical professionals, can feel heard and respected. Medical mediation is also able to resolve issues that typically aren’t able to be addressed in a court of law, like breakdowns in communication.

Health Care

Navigating complex healthcare decisions can cause significant emotional strain between families and care teams. Healthcare mediation provides a neutral, compassionate space to bridge communication gaps, align treatment goals, and resolve disputes regarding ongoing care plans. Our dual legal and social work perspective helps rebuild trust and ensures the patient's best interests remain the primary focus.

Elder Care

The objective in offering mediation concerning end of life planning is not to suggest that we will prepare and help you execute a Last Will and Testament or a Trust. The legal application of what we address in mediation is the province of attorneys at law.

The planning required leading up to the involvement of an Estate lawyer, is our forte and we take it seriously. End of life planning is extremely important, it is not easy and it can be a heavy burden on ones family, even with a thoughtful and concise plan. It is crucial to establish future decisions now that can offer some semblance of control, both to the planner and to their immediate family, in what will likely feel a very out of control environment in the future.

The problems arise when the family, spouses, siblings and/or children have difficulty accepting the established plan.

The discussions surrounding Power of Attorneys; Living Wills; Living Trusts; Do Not Resuscitate Orders; Organ/Tissue Donor and Funeral/Burial Arrangements must all be handled with patience, reassurance, understanding and respect. It is within the safe confines of the mediation process that our mediators can guide the parties through the maze of emotional upheaval and the resistance to the fear of the unknown yet logical end.
